Changes in environmental conditions due to climate change, together with the
development of intensive precision agriculture, have enabled new crops, such as olive groves, to be
cultivated in areas that were previously considered a thermal limit, like the central plains of Castilla y
León in Spain. The expansion of olive groves towards the east (provinces of Zamora and Valladolid), is
taking place along the Douro, a river renowned for its wine and olive production in the portuguese
North Region and along the border of the Raya. Although the olive groves in the sedimentary basins
cover very little surface area, they are linked to the quality and productive/business diversification
strategies of wineries registered in the Douro wine DO. The interest lies in the multifunctionality of
quality productions (wine and olive oil), which give rise to complementary business activities (wine
and olive oil tourism), with the territory of origin and the landscape serving as axes of differentiation
and prestige. This study aims to explore the scope and significance of olive grove development in an
area without a cultivation. The discussion focuses on revising the concept of territorial anchorage since
the uniqueness of the territory and overcoming environmental limitations of the production space are
the main arguments used to characterize these oils.

Vineyard production is an iconic element of the Iberian regions connected by the River
Douro. It is also one of the most important pillars of the local economy, involving numerous actors
along a traditional value chain based on vineyard work, winemaking and wine marketing. Now, a
strong enotourism sector has emerged, creating a network of agents, initiatives and interests that play
a crucial role in local socio-economic contexts. This paper explores strategies for promoting enotourism
in the vine and wine regions along the Douro, aiming to highlight the multifunctional nature of
territorialised agricultural activity. Drawing on a review of scientific literature in this field, an analysis
of primary statistical sources and the outcomes of fieldwork conducted within the framework of the
AgroHub project, this paper emphasises the contextual diversity of experiences and resources that
characterise the tourism offerings of these territories.

The limits and contradictions of productivist agricultural systems (particularly those arising from their responsibility for climate change, their negative impact on biodiversity, soil conservation, or water quality) explain the transition toward more sustainable and resilient agricultural models. In some cases, strategies are aimed at applying technical solutions derived from digitalization, such as precision agriculture or sustainable intensification. In others, nature-based solutions have been implemented, practices aligned with the principles of agroecology or, most commonly, with the standards established for organic agriculture certification. In the wine sector, these kinds of practices are becoming widespread, both to mitigate their impact on the environment and as a commercial strategy that adds value to cultural attributes by taking advantage of opportunities in other market niches. This article analyzes the scope and significance of these kinds of practices in the wine-producing areas threaded by the Duero River throughout its Iberian course. The use of the main statistical sources and fieldwork as a methodological principle makes it possible to conclude that, although organic viticulture is advancing in all regions, in the most productivist ones, official aid and the reduction of production costs are decisive, while the quality of a product backed by sustainability principles acquires particular importance in areas less oriented toward
intensification, specialization, and concentration.

Electricity generation from renewable sources is one of the manifestations of the energy
transition in Spain that has greatest impact in spatial and landscape terms. Despite this, the
change towards a sustainable electricity production model, which allows more people to
access energy and limits dependence on fossil fuels, is being marred by a lack of planning,
social debate and citizen participation. This chapter analyses the technical dimensions of the
change in the production model and its spatial imprint, and the different ways in which
Spanish geographers have approached this question. It concludes with some reflections on
the enormous challenge facing our discipline today, namely to demonstrate its capacity to
provide useful responses to one of the problems of most interest to society.
