Creencias y prácticas del profesorado sobre Educación para la Ciudadanía Global

El profesorado tiene ante sí el reto de responder a los desafíos del tiempo presente: un
mundo global sumido en una grave crisis ecológica, profundas desigualdades sociales,
conflictos y retrocesos en valores. La Educación para la Ciudadanía Global (EpCG) se
presenta como una potencial herramienta para promover en el alumnado una
ciudadanía crítica y comprometida con los Derechos Humanos y la justicia social. Este
estudio se basa en una investigación cualitativa llevado a cabo con profesorado de dos
centros, uno urbano y otro rural. Su intención, basándose en los resultados obtenidos
en entrevistas, grupos de discusión y el análisis documental de ambos centros, ha sido
identificar conocimientos, actitudes, percepciones, prácticas, limitaciones, y
expectativas existentes en el seno de ese profesorado. Los resultados, discutidos a la
luz de otras investigaciones sobre el tema, arrojan conclusiones de gran valor para el
desarrollo de estrategias de enseñanza basadas en la EpCG.
Teachers are faced with the challenge of responding to the demands of the present time:
a globalized world immersed in a serious ecological crisis, deep social inequalities,
conflicts, and setbacks in values. Global Citizenship Education (GCE) emerges as a
potential tool to promote among students a critical and committed citizenship grounded
in Human Rights and social justice. This study is based on qualitative research carried
out with teachers from two schools, one urban and one rural. Its aim, based on the results
obtained from interviews, discussion groups, and documentary analysis of both schools,
has been to identify the knowledge, attitudes, perceptions, practices, limitations, and
expectations present among these teachers. The results, discussed in light of other
studies on the subject, offer valuable conclusions for the development of teaching
strategies based on GCE.
