Este artículo trata de mostrar la evolución de la figura del dragón en la cultura occidental y oriental. Este animal mitológico ha formado parte de casi todas las sociedades del mundo tanto orientales como occidentales. En primer lugar, se expone el origen y la evolución del tópico del dragón en Occidente y posteriormente, el proceso de desarrollo del tópico en Oriente. En el artículo se ponen de relevancia aspectos culturales, políticos, e incluso expresiones que incluyen el término dragón en la lengua china. También se añade un estudio sobre la evolución del dragón en la literatura occidental, dando énfasis a la figura de San Jorge como caballero que lucha contra el mal. El artículo finaliza con un estudio comparativo entre un cuento occidental muy representativo como es “San Jorge y el dragón” y otro cuento tradicional chino titulado “La hija del Dragón” donde se pueden observar las diferencias culturales y su reflejo en la literatura popular.
This article tries to show the evolution of the dragon in Western and Eastern
culture. This mythological animal has been part of almost every culture in
the world. The article is based in the origin and evolution of the dragon in
the West and East culture. The article emphasizes cultural, political, and
even traditional expressions with dragon. Also included is a study on the
evolution of the dragon in Western literature, emphasizing the figure of St.
George as a knight. The article ends with a comparative study between a
very representative Western story such as "St. George and the Dragon" and
another traditional Chinese tale entitled "The daughter of de Dragon" where
we can observe cultural differences and their reflection in popular literature.
