<description>For hydrophobic redox films immersed in aqueous electrolyte, electron transfer at the electrode/film interface is coupled to ion transfer across the film/solution interface. Here we consider how differences in ion solvation in the film versus the electrolyte phase can control the apparent redox properties of model electroactive thin films.</description>
