A finales del siglo XVIII los hospitales de pobres y peregrinos
han perdido el protagonismo que tuvieron en tiempos medievales,
circunstancia que la Iglesia aprovecha para la instauración de
obras pías benéficas como son las de corrección de mujeres delincuentes.
De esta manera el renombrado Hospital del Emperador de
Burgos, cuyo antiguo esplendor se ha ido amortizando paulatinamente
a través de los siglos XVII y XVIII, pasa a convertirse en Casa de
Corrección de mujeres, o Casa-Galera, hasta que ya, a mitad del siglo
XIX, la administración de justicia del Estado liberal determina su
extinción definitiva.
At the end of the 18th century charity and pilgrim hospitals
lost the relevance they used to have in medieval times, circumstances
that the Church used for the establishment of pious charity instead of those, such as the correction of women offenders. Therefore, the renowned Hospital del Emperador of Burgos, whose former
splendor has been amortised gradually through the 17th and 18th
centuries, becomes a house of correction for women or Casa-Galera,
until halfway through the 19th century when the justice administration
of the Liberal State determines its extinction.
