El paisaje rural en época romana: un ejemplo en el Tirón medio

El presente estudio tiene como objetivo rehacer el paisaje
agrario en el contexto del sitio arqueológico de La Mesa (Belorado).
En el trabajo se plantea la posibilidad de que el asentamiento se
conociese hasta época medieval con el nombre de Osmilla, y se
apuesta por la posibilidad de que fuese una “civitas” cuyo territorio
se extendiese por tierras del Tirón Alto y Medio. El desarrollo del
estudio muestra el lenguaje de los objetos arqueológicos, entre ellos
la magnífica colección de lápidas funerarias, y la planificación urbanística
de la ciudad desarrollada a partir de las ortofotos del Sistema
de Información Geográfica de Castilla y León. El trabajo concluye
con el hallazgo de una serie de pequeñas villae y del sistema viario,
cuya existencia pone de manifiesto una posible centuriación.
The aim of this study is to recreate the rural lanscape
around the archaeological site known as La Mesa (Belorado, Burgos).
We postulate that the settlement was known as Osmilla until the
medieval period, and explore the possibility that it had previously
been a civitas controlling a territory in the middle and upper reaches
of the Tirón valley. Amidst the archaeological evidence of this, the
most eloquent testimonies are magnificent collection of tombstones
and the urban layout as reconstructed using the Junta de Castilla y
Leon's Geographical System. Finally we document the discovery of a series of smaller satellite villae an interconnecting network of
roads which suggest the implementation of a centuriation system.
