López Gómez, José Manuel Burgos Vacunación antivariólica 1801 Juana Manuela de Villachica Ignacio Mª Ruiz de Luzuriaga Prudencio Valderrama Burgos (Spain) Smallpox vaccine La decisiva intervención de una dama burgalesa, Juana Manuela de Villachica y Llaguno, ante el médico residente en Madrid, Ignacio Mª Ruiz de Luzuriaga, uno de los introductores de la vacunación antivariólica en España, permitió que el 16 de agosto de 1801, Prudencio Valderrrama, médico titular del cabildo catedralicio burgalés y del hospital de Barrantes, iniciase la práctica vacunal en la ciudad de Burgos, hasta alcanzar al año siguiente una cobertura del 10% de su vecindario.
