En el Panteón Real de Las Huelgas de Burgos se encuentra
la sepultura del rey Enrique I, hijo del fundador del monasterio,
Alfonso VIII y de Leonor de Plantagenet, fallecido con apenas trece
años, cuya calavera fue objeto de estudio por el burgalés Víctor Escribano García, catedrático de Medicina de la Universidad de Granada. Ochocientos años después del accidentado deceso del llamado
rey niño, se detalla el proceso de estudio del cráneo trepanado y se
aportan detalles sobre la apertura del sepulcro realizada en 1948 a
instancia del Dr. Escribano.
In the royal cemetery of Las Huelgas Monastery is located the grave of the king Enrique I, son of the monastery’s founder
Alfonso VIII and Leonor de Plantagenet, who was deceased at the age
of barely fourteen, and whose skull was studied by the burgalese
Víctor Escribano García, medicine professor at the University of Granada. Eight hundred years after the so called ‘child king’ accidental
death, the procedure for studying the trepanated skull is detailed, and
we are provided detail about the grave opening in 1948, made at Dr.
Escribano’s request.
