La localidad burgalesa de Pradoluengo se ha caracterizado
por su dedicación a la industria textil desde el siglo XVI hasta
la actualidad. El ingente patrimonio generado durante más de quinientos
años por esta actividad económica corre serio peligro de desaparecer totalmente. Sus recursos y elementos singulares adolecen
de un proyecto integral que los ponga en valor, no sólo como potencial
detonante para la recuperación del pulso de sus sectores secundario
y terciario, sino como guía de preservación de una historia genuina
y de una forma de vida totalmente divergente respecto a la generalizada
en el ámbito rural de su provincia. El artículo hace un balance
sobre las claves de sus primeros pasos, apogeo y, a pesar de los pesares,
su pervivencia presente.
The town of Pradoluengo in Burgos province has been
characterised by its dedication to the textile industry from the sixteenth
century until the present. The abundance of heritage material
and sites accumulated over more than 500 years as a result of this economic activity are, however, now in very grave danger of comple tely
disappearing. These unique reminders of the past lack a coherent promotional project, not only as a potential means of arresting the decline of the locality’s secondary and tertiary sectors, but also as a way
of preserving the authentic history of a way of life so strikingly different to that of neighbouring rural communities. In this paper we evaluate the origins of this legacy, its period of splendour and, despite
everything, its continued survival.
