En las afueras de la ciudad de Medina de Pomar floreció
durante seiscientos años una comunidad de Franciscanos
habitando un hermoso edificio, del que solamente se conservan
el cuerpo correspondiente al presbiterio y ante-presbiterio de su
iglesia conventual. El resto del monasterio fue demolido para la
construcción de viviendas hacia el año 1968. Este artículo pretende
contribuir a conservar su memoria aunando datos ya publicados
con otros inéditos para dar a conocer mejor el patrimonio medinés.
Teniendo en cuenta el valor que para la ciudad hubiera supuesto la
conservación de todo el edificio, merecen atención los dos tramos
todavía alzados de la iglesia. Su restauración, aunque fuera a largo
plazo, enriquecería el legado histórico de la antigua capital de las
Merindades para disfrute de propios y extraños.
On the outskirts of the city of Medina de Pomar a community
of Franciscans flourished for six hundred years, inhabiting
a beautiful building, of which only the body corresponding to the
presbytery and ante-presbytery of its convent church are preserved.
The rest from the monastery was demolished for the construction of houses around the year 1968. This article aims to help preserve its
memory by combining published data with other unpublished data
to better publicize the heritage of medinés. Considering the value
that the preservation of the entire building would have entailed for
the city, the two still elevated sections of the church deserve attention.
Its restoration, even if long-term, would enrich the historical
legacy of the old capital of the Merindades for the enjoyment of
both locals and strangers.
