Las primeras fábricas de la ciudad. El impulso industrializador en Burgos durante los años treinta y cuarenta

El segundo tercio del siglo XX abre una etapa clave en el impulso y avance del proceso de industrialización
de la ciudad de Burgos. La implantación de grandes factorías dedicadas a la producción
de tejidos y a la fabricación de papel induce la emergencia de otras actividades complementarias y la
configuración de relaciones interempresariales de carácter técnico y económico, que modifican por
primera vez el entramado manufacturero tradicional. Al mismo tiempo, tiene lugar el desarrollo de un
sistema empresarial básico, sustentado tanto en el crecimiento de pequeños talleres, que progresivamente
van aumentado la escala de producción, como en la realización de nuevas inversiones, que contribuyen
a la diversificación sectorial de la economía local y crean las primeras fábricas de la ciudad.
Sin embargo, a mediados de los años cincuenta se ponen en evidencia las distorsiones inherentes a la
política industrial autárquica, de manera que el sistema productivo de Burgos muestra ya claros síntomas
de estancamiento ante la ausencia de nuevas iniciativas empresariales y el desmantelamiento
de las instalaciones fabriles menos competitivas. El artículo analiza el proceso de esta primera industrialización,
con el objeto de ilustrar la importancia estructural de aquel periodo en la formación de
la economía local de ciudades de tamaño medio como Burgos.
The second third of the XX century opens a key period in the expansion and advance of the
industrialization process of the city of Burgos. The establishment of large factories in two sectors,
textile and paper industries, entails the development of other complementary activities and the configuration
of inter-firm relations of economic and technical character, which modified the traditional
manufacturing framework for the first time. At the same time, the shape of a basic business
system took place, supported both in the growth of small workshops that progressively enlarged the
scale of production, and in new investments, that contribute to the sectorial diversification of the
local economy and create the first factories of the city. Nevertheless, in the middle of the 1950s the
inherent distortions of the autarkic industrial policy were notably evident, so that the productive
system of Burgos already showed clear symptoms of stagnation due to the lack of new entrepreneurial
initiatives and the dismantling of the less competitive manufacturing facilities. This paper
analyzes the process of this first industrialization, with the purpose of illustrating the structural
importance of that period in the conformation of the local economy of cities of medium size like
Burgos.
