XIX en Inglaterra. Concebido e ideado como un novedoso sistema de transporte, contribuyó al desarrollo de muchos territorios y al cambio en sus dinámicas económicas y sociales. De este modo, poco a poco se fue expandiendo por toda Europa y, paralelo a su desarrollo, estuvo acompañado de una preocupación e interés instantáneos por su imagen en los medios, tanto a nivel nacional como internacional. Se forjará así una imagen a medio camino entre el misticismo, la modernidad y los problemas que representaba su precaria y lenta transformación tecnológica. Más allá de estas connotaciones, el ferrocarril también se reflejará como un hecho mediático en obras pictóricas y literarias que con frecuencia evocarán paisajes idílicos y diversos.
