<dim:field mdschema="dc" element="description" qualifier="abstract" lang="es">La Diabetes Mellitus Tipo 1 (DM1) es una enfermedad metabólica crónica&#xd;
degenerativa, debida a la destrucción de las células beta productoras de insulina. Se&#xd;
estima que se producen cada año 1.200 nuevos casos entre menores de 14 años, estando&#xd;
afectados unos 15.500 niños y adolescentes (menores de 19 años).&#xd;
La elevada incidencia de la DM1, aumenta las posibilidades de que los docentestengan&#xd;
en su clase alumnado con esta enfermedad.&#xd;
El objetivo general de esta tesis doctoral fue conocer las necesidades que tiene el&#xd;
alumnado con DM1 durante su jornada escolar desde la perspectiva del profesorado y&#xd;
progenitores.&#xd;
El estudio se desarrolló en los cursos 2018/2019 a 2020/2021. Se realizó un diseño de&#xd;
investigación explicativo, secuencial, de métodos mixtos. Se administró un&#xd;
cuestionario a 652 profesores/as en activo de Educación Infantil, Educación Primaria,&#xd;
Educación Secundaria Obligatoria, Bachillerato y Formación Profesional de Burgos&#xd;
capital y provincia (Castilla y León, España) que ha tenido alumnado con DM1. Se&#xd;
complementó la información obtenida con un diseño cualitativo fenomenológico. Se&#xd;
realizaron entrevistas semiestructuras a 11 docentes, 4 mujeres y 7 hombres, de centros&#xd;
educativos de titularidad pública y concertada de la provincia de Burgos y a 10 madres&#xd;
y 5 padres, socios de la Asociación de Diabéticos de Burgos (ASDIBUR), con menores&#xd;
afectados por DM1 escolarizados en estos centros.&#xd;
Los resultados muestran que el profesorado tiene una actitud positiva hacia el&#xd;
alumnado con DM1, aunque demanda más información y formación sobre la&#xd;
enfermedad para atender las necesidades del alumnado.&#xd;
Es importante concienciar a la comunidad educativa sobre las necesidades del&#xd;
alumnado con DM1 y dar pautas de actuación al profesorado y al personal del centro&#xd;
ante situaciones de emergencia.</dim:field>

T1DM during the school day from the perspective of teachers and parents.&#xd;
The study was developed over the academic years 2018/2019 to 2020/2021. An&#xd;
explanatory, sequential, mixed methods study was designed. A questionnaire was&#xd;
administered to practicing teachers in Pre-primary Education, Primary Education,&#xd;
Compulsory Secondary Education, and Further Education, as well as Vocational&#xd;
Education within both the province and the city of Burgos (Castile and Leon, Spain)&#xd;
who may have students with T1DM.&#xd;
The information gathered was complemented with a qualitative phenomenological&#xd;
design. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 11 teachers, 4 women and 7&#xd;
men, from public sector and state-aided educational centres within the province of&#xd;
Burgos, and 10 mothers and 5 fathers, members of the Burgos Diabetics Association&#xd;
(ASDIBUR), of children affected by T1DM enrolled at these centres.&#xd;
The results show that teachers have a positive attitude towards students with T1DM,&#xd;
although they demand more information and training about the disease to providing&#xd;
attention to the students’ needs.&#xd;
It is important to raise the awareness of the educational community on the needs of&#xd;
students with DM1 and to provide guidelines on emergency situations to teachers and&#xd;
staff at the centres.</dim:field>
