The aim of this research, based on a literature review, is to raise awareness of a new
reality associated with ageing, the silver economy, which has great potential not only
because of the economic resources it is expected to mobilise but also because of the
prominence and relevance given to older people as consumers of specialised products
and services. The results give a clear picture of a scenario under construction, where
European institutions seek to give visibility and impetus to this reality but society is
not yet fully prepared to integrate this change.
El objetivo de esta investigación, basada en una revisión bibliográfica, es dar a
conocer una nueva realidad asociada al envejecimiento, la silver economy o economía
plateada, que presenta un gran potencial no solo por los recursos económicos que
prevé movilizar sino también por el protagonismo y relevancia con los que se dota
a las personas mayores como consumidores de productos y servicios especializados.
Los resultados dejan nítida la imagen de un escenario en construcción, donde las
instituciones europeas buscan dar visibilidad e impulso a esta realidad pero la
sociedad aún no está completamente preparada para integrar este cambio.
