En los últimos años, el ámbito educativo ha experimentado cambios significativos,
donde la falta de motivación del alumnado es un desafío importante para los
docentes. Para abordar esta situación, se ha incrementado el uso de las
metodologías activas en el aula. Se presenta una investigación asociada a la
implementación de una situación de aprendizaje con un enfoque STEM (Ciencia,
Tecnología, Ingeniería y Matemáticas) integrado. Esta situación de aprendizaje
utiliza el Aprendizaje Basado en Juegos y específicamente un escape room virtual
con el objetivo de promover sus efectos sobre las actitudes hacia STEM en el
alumnado de Educación Secundaria Obligatoria. El escape room se ha diseñado
para la materia de Matemáticas y gira en torno a la resolución de ecuaciones,
abordando el currículo español del tercer curso de Educación Secundaria en las
materias de Matemáticas, Física y Química y Tecnología y Digitalización. Se realizó
un estudio cuasi-experimental cuantitativo en un centro educativo de Burgos para
analizar las actitudes de 24 estudiantes hacia disciplinas STEM comparando un
grupo experimental y un grupo control con características similares. En
comparación con el grupo de control, los estudiantes que realizaron el escape room
expresaron mayores actitudes hacia disciplinas STEM, aunque estas mejoras no
fueron estadísticamente significativas. A pesar de la corta duración de la
intervención y la falta de diferencias significativas entre grupos y géneros, las
metodologías activas como los escape rooms pueden ser efectivas para motivar y
comprometer al alumnado en disciplinas STEM. Los resultados obtenidos parecen
reforzar la hipótesis de que los estudiantes pierden actitudes hacia disciplinas
STEM durante la etapa de secundaria. Este estudio ha aportado evidencia sobre la
efectividad de los escape rooms como metodologías educativas para mejorar las
actitudes hacia las disciplinas STEM con resultados prometedores que sugieren un
camino viable para innovar en la enseñanza de las ciencias, tecnología, ingeniería
y matemáticas en la educación secundaria.
In recent years, the educational environment has undergone significant changes,
the lack of student motivation has become a major challenge for teachers. To
address this situation the use of active methodologies in the classroom has
increased. We present an investigation regarding the implementation of a learning
proposal with an integrated STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and
Mathematics) approach. This learning proposal, designed to help students improve
their attitudes towards STEM disciplines, uses Game-Based Learning and, more
specifically, an virtual escape room with the aim of analyzing its effects towards
STEM in students of Compulsory Secondary Education. The escape room has been
designed for the subject of Mathematics and revolves around solving equations, it
addresses the spanish teaching curriculum of the third year of Secondary Education
in the subject of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, and Technology and
Digitalization. A quantitative quasi-experimental study was carried out in an
educational center in Burgos to analyze the attitude of 24 students towards STEM
disciplines through the comparison of an experimental group with a control group of
similar characteristics. Compared to the control group, students who completed the
escape room expressed better attitudes toward STEM disciplines, although these
improvements were not statistically significant. Despite the short duration of the
intervention and the lack of significant differences between groups and genders,
active methodologies such as escape rooms can be effective in motivating and
engaging students in STEM disciplines. The results obtained seem to reinforce the
hypothesis that students lose favorable attitudes towards STEM disciplines during
high school. This study has provided evidence on the effectiveness of escape rooms
as an educational methodology to improve attitudes towards STEM disciplines with
promising results that suggest a viable path to innovate in the teaching of science,
technology, engineering, and mathematics in secondary education.
