<description>Estudio de la influencia del etanol en la hidrólisis y fraccionamiento de paja de trigo y cebada mediante agua subcrítica
Palacios Tovar, Kerly Engels
Se evaluó el efecto del agua subcrítica, sin adición de co-solvente, así como modificada con&#13;
etanol (20 % y 40 % v/v), sobre la hidrólisis de un residuo agroindustrial mixto de paja de trigo&#13;
y cebada (175 °C, 40 bar, 60 min), mediante la caracterización de las corrientes líquida y sólida&#13;
y un balance estructural integrado. El etanol atenuó la autohidrólisis de la hemicelulosa y&#13;
redujo la formación de furfural y ácido fórmico (-60,3 % y -46,1 % frente a agua subcrítica). La&#13;
remoción de lignina no varió significativamente entre tratamientos (p = 0,09), pero el mayor&#13;
porcentaje de etanol redujo la retención de lignina insoluble en ácido (p = 0,018), evidencia&#13;
de un segundo mecanismo independiente de la protección de carbohidratos. Los glucanos&#13;
permanecieron mayoritariamente retenidos en el sólido, mientras que la remoción de&#13;
pentosanos disminuyó al aumentar la proporción de etanol frente al agua subcrítica pura. El&#13;
perfil con 40 % de etanol, más rico en celulosa y con lignina estructuralmente menos compleja,&#13;
resultó el más afín como precursor para su posterior fraccionamiento en nanocelulosa.; The effect of subcritical water, without co-solvent addition, as well as modified with ethanol (20&#13;
% and 40 % v/v), on the hydrolysis of a mixed wheat-barley straw agro-industrial residue (175&#13;
°C, 40 bar, 60 min), was evaluated through characterization of the liquid and solid streams and&#13;
an integrated structural mass balance. Ethanol attenuated hemicellulose autohydrolysis and&#13;
reduced furfural and formic acid formation (-60.3 % and -46.1 % relative to subcritical water).&#13;
Lignin removal did not differ significantly between treatments (p = 0.09), but the highest ethanol&#13;
proportion reduced the retention of acid-insoluble lignin (p = 0.018), evidence of a second&#13;
mechanism independent of carbohydrate protection. Glucans remained mostly retained in the&#13;
solid, whereas pentosan removal decreased as the ethanol proportion increased relative to&#13;
pure subcritical water. The profile obtained with 40 % ethanol, richer in cellulose and with a&#13;
structurally less complex lignin, proved the most suitable precursor for subsequent&#13;
fractionation into nanocellulose.

<title>Evaluación del uso de disolventes eutécticos profundos naturales (NADES) en el pretratamiento de pieles de cebolla</title>
<link>https://hdl.handle.net/10259/11882</link>
<description>Evaluación del uso de disolventes eutécticos profundos naturales (NADES) en el pretratamiento de pieles de cebolla
Mayor Grajales, Andrés Felipe
En el presente Trabajo Fin de Máster (TFM) se llevó a cabo una investigación tipo “screening” centrado en el pretratamiento de piel de cebolla utilizando disolventes eutécticos profundos naturales (NADES) con el objetivo principal de enriquecer la fracción celulósica de este subproducto de la industria agroalimentaria. Estos disolventes verdes ofrecen ventajas importantes frente a otros procedimientos convencionales basados en disolventes orgánicos; como en su biodegradabilidad, baja toxicidad y alta compatibilidad.&#13;
Para la formulación de los NADES, se emplearon combinaciones basadas en cloruro de colina y betaína como aceptores de enlaces de hidrogeno (HBA) junto con ácidos orgánicos (láctico, málico y tartárico) como donadores de enlaces de hidrógeno (HBD). La investigación se centró en estudiar las variables clave del proceso, como la relación NADES:cebolla (se varió en el rango 20:1 a 8:1, g:g), el tiempo de reacción (de 1 a 6 horas), cinéticas y la temperatura (80 ºC a 140 ºC), sobre la eficacia de enriquecimiento de la fracción celulósica y reducción de lignina total.&#13;
Los resultados indicaron que, las mezclas de betaína y ácido tartárico incrementó la fracción de celulosa de un 34,3% partiendo como materia prima inicial, logrando un máximo de 64,4%, lo cual lo indica la viabilidad de los NADES como agentes de hidrólisis selectiva. El análisis estadístico confirmó las diferencias significativas (p ≤ 0,05) según las formulaciones y condiciones predeterminadas, destacando temperaturas de 120 ºC como óptimas para las relaciones NADES:cebolla de 10:1 (g:g) y para tiempos de operación largos, de 6 horas.&#13;
Este trabajo pone de manifiesto el potencial de los NADES como agentes de pretratamiento selectivo para biomasa, y contribuye a la valorización de subproductos agroindustriales dentro del marco de la biorrefinería y la economía circular. Asimismo, se sientan las bases para futuras investigaciones orientadas al aprovechamiento de la fracción celulósica en aplicaciones de alto valor añadido, como la obtención de materiales nanocelulósicos; In this Master's Thesis (TFM), a screening-type investigation was carried out focusing on the pretreatment of onion skin using natural deep eutectic solvents (NADES) with the main objective of enriching the cellulose fraction of this by-product of the agri-food industry. These green solvents offer significant advantages over other conventional procedures based on organic solvents, such as biodegradability, low toxicity, and high compatibility.&#13;
For the formulation of NADES, combinations based on choline chloride and betaine were used as hydrogen bond acceptors (HBA) together with organic acids (lactic, malic, and tartaric) as hydrogen bond donors (HBD). The research focused on studying the key variables of the process, such as the NADES:onion ratio (varied in the range 20:1 to 8:1, g:g), reaction time (from 1 to 6 hours), kinetics, and temperature (80 °C to 140 °C) on the effectiveness of cellulose fraction enrichment and total lignin reduction.&#13;
The results indicated that the mixtures of betaine and tartaric acid increased the cellulose fraction from 34.3% of the initial raw material to a maximum of 64.4%, indicating the viability of NADES as selective hydrolysis agents. Statistical analysis confirmed significant differences (p ≤ 0.05) according to the formulations and predetermined conditions, highlighting temperatures of 120 °C as optimal for NADES:onion ratios of 10:1 (g:g) and for long operating times of 6 hours.&#13;
This work highlights the potential of NADES as selective pretreatment agents for biomass and contributes to the valorization of agro-industrial by-products within the framework of biorefinery and the circular economy. It also lays the foundation for future research aimed at exploiting the cellulosic fraction in high value-added applications, such as the production of nanocellulosic materials

<title>Separación de mezclas de ácido láctico mediante nanofiltración: parámetros de operación y modelado</title>
<link>https://hdl.handle.net/10259/11025</link>
<description>Separación de mezclas de ácido láctico mediante nanofiltración: parámetros de operación y modelado
Amhamdi, Ibtissam
La purificación de ácido láctico, representa una de las etapas más críticas y costosas en las biorrefinerías,&#13;
limitando a menudo la sostenibilidad del proceso global. Este trabajo se centra en la evaluación de una&#13;
membrana cerámica de nanofiltración (TiO₂/Al₂O₃, 200 Da) como alternativa tecnológica para la&#13;
separación y concentración de ácido láctico. Se emplearon disoluciones sintéticas de ácido láctico,&#13;
lactato de calcio y mezclas multicomponente para analizar sistemáticamente la influencia de la presión&#13;
de operación, la composición de la mezcla y el pH de la alimentación sobre el rendimiento del proceso.&#13;
Los resultados demuestran que el pH es la variable de control dominante. La operación a pH básico o&#13;
neutro, donde el de ácido láctico se encuentra en su forma iónica (lactato), induce repulsión electrostática&#13;
con la membrana, lo que eleva la retención de forma significativa. Por el contrario, a pH ácido la&#13;
separación es ineficiente. El análisis del ensuciamiento, validado mediante un modelo de flujo límite,&#13;
confirmó que las condiciones ácidas conducen a un alto ensuciamiento irreversible (β), mientras que las&#13;
condiciones básicas garantizan una operación estable. Se observó una relación inversa entre flujo y&#13;
retención, pues para la mezcla compleja, el pH básico provocó una disminución del flujo, mientras que&#13;
para el lactato de calcio se mejoró la retención sin alterar la productividad.&#13;
Se concluye que la estrategia más eficaz y prometedora es la conversión del ácido a su sal (lactato de&#13;
calcio) y la operación del sistema a pH básico, ya que esta aproximación ofrece el mejor balance entre&#13;
alta retención y flujo estable, validando su potencial para una futura implementación industrial.; The purification of lactic acid represents one of the most critical and costly stages in biorefineries, often&#13;
limiting the sustainability of the overall process. This work focuses on the evaluation of a ceramic&#13;
nanofiltration membrane (TiO₂/Al₂O₃, 200 Da) as a technological alternative for the separation and&#13;
concentration of lactic acid. Synthetic solutions of lactic acid, calcium lactate, and multicomponent&#13;
mixtures were used to systematically analyze the influence of operating pressure, mixture composition,&#13;
and feed pH on process performance.&#13;
The results demonstrate that pH is the dominant control variable. Operating at a basic or neutral pH,&#13;
where lactic acid exists in its ionic form (lactate), induces electrostatic repulsion with the membrane,&#13;
leading to a significant increase in retention. Conversely, separation at acidic pH is inefficient. The&#13;
analysis of fouling, validated by a boundary flux model, confirmed that acidic conditions lead to high&#13;
irreversible fouling (β), whereas basic conditions ensure stable operation. A notable trade-off between&#13;
flux and retention was observed: for the complex mixture, basic pH caused a collapse in flux, while for&#13;
calcium lactate, retention was improved without sacrificing productivity.&#13;
It is concluded that the most effective and promising strategy is the conversion of the acid to its salt&#13;
form (calcium lactate) and operating the system at a basic pH. This approach offers the best balance&#13;
between high retention and stable flux, validating its potential for future industrial implementation.

<description>Extracción de la fracción proteica de cascarilla de soja mediante agua subcrítica para su valorización
Peña Rodríguez, Cecilia
La cascarilla de soja, un residuo lignocelulósico de la industria agroalimentaria, contiene&#13;
una fracción proteica significativa. Se propuso la valorización de este subproducto&#13;
mediante la extracción de su fracción proteica utilizando agua subcrítica (SW). Se&#13;
optimizó el proceso evaluando el efecto de la temperatura (150-200 ºC), el tiempo (120-&#13;
240 min) y la adición de bicarbonato de sodio. Los resultados mostraron que el&#13;
tratamiento a 150 ºC fue el más eficiente para la obtención de aminoácidos totales,&#13;
logrando un balance entre eficiencia de extracción y sostenibilidad&#13;
energética. Temperaturas más elevadas (180 ºC y 200 ºC) causaron degradación&#13;
térmica de los compuestos nitrogenados. La adición de bicarbonato de sodio duplicó la&#13;
liberación de aminoácidos libres a 150 ºC, facilitando la hidrólisis en un medio alcalino. El&#13;
extracto obtenido a 200 ºC presentó la mayor capacidad antioxidante; Soybean hulls, a lignocellulosic residue from the agri-food industry, contain a significant&#13;
protein fraction. This byproduct was valorized by extracting its protein fraction using&#13;
subcritical water (SW). The process was optimized by evaluating the effect of&#13;
temperature (150-200 ºC), time (120-240 min), and the addition of sodium&#13;
bicarbonate. Results showed that the 150 ºC treatment was the most efficient for&#13;
obtaining total amino acids, achieving a balance between extraction efficiency and&#13;
energy sustainability. Higher temperatures (180 ºC and 200 ºC) caused thermal&#13;
degradation of nitrogenous compounds. The addition of sodium bicarbonate doubled the&#13;
liberation of free amino acids at 150 ºC, facilitating hydrolysis in an alkaline medium. The&#13;
extract obtained at 200 ºC presented the highest antioxidant capacity.
