Ariel (1900), la importante obra de Rodó, vino a dar un cauce al emerger de la reflexión identitaria. Y no sólo eso, ofreció un camino basado en el idealismo clásico, la inteligencia intelectual y la belleza; propuesta que fue seguida por la juventud de toda Latinoamérica. En Perú, el grupo de los arielistas tomaron estas ideas y las adaptaron desde su perspectiva ideológica. Este artículo trata de describir este marco contextual social y literario, ofreciendo una visión general de cada uno de los miembros del arielismo modernista peruano. An issue of essential relevance for Latin America has been the questioning of its cultural identity.
