Se produjo apenas un mes después de la nueva proclamación de la Constitución de Cádiz, y en medio de un ambiente de euforia liberal. Se cerró como consecuencia del decreto de abolición de la Inquisición de 9 de marzo con la realización de un inventario de causas, documentos y libros que duró ocho días, dirigido por las autoridades civiles, judiciales y eclesiásticas, que quedaron depositados en un arca de tres llaves.
