This paper analyzes the Spanish Golden Age female picaresca narrative in contrast
with the contemporary theatrical play Malvivir (2022) by Álvaro Tato. The aim of this
study is to bring renewed attention to the figure of the pícara , traditionally relegated to a
marginal position within literary studies and, at the same time, to make visible the
dogmatic and patriarchal gaze that women have historically suffered. Through a re reading of Malvivir, the study examines the codes of the female picaresque and its
relationship with the socio-moral reality of the Golden Age. In this way, the analysis of
the most relevant aspects of the female picaresque and its reformulation in a contemporary
work offers an opportunity to delve into the underworld of a century as fruitful as it was
contradictory.
