<dc:description>Clinical 3D printing has proven to be a high-impact technology
for surgical planning in complex cases, enabling the transformation
of medical imaging studies into three-dimensional physical models
that surgical teams can examine before the intervention. However,
its adoption across Spain remains uneven: the Hospital Universitario
de Burgos (HUBU) currently lacks such a unit.
This Bachelor’s Thesis proposes a complete implementation plan
for a Point-of-Care 3D Surgical Planning Unit at HUBU and demonstrates its technical feasibility through a pilot project. Ten anatomical
biomodels of four abdominal organs (spleen, pancreas, kidney, and liver) were produced from publicly available CT studies from the TCIA
repository, using the open-source TotalSegmentator software for automatic segmentation and a Bambu Lab P1S printer with grey PLA
filament at 1:1 scale. Models were assessed using a three-dimension
anchored quality rubric (maximum 15/15), achieving scores between
10/15 and 13/15 in Normal mode without post-processing, and up to
15/15 after applying a Gaussian filter to the liver. TotalSegmentator
outperformed manual segmentation on the only organ evaluated with
both methods (pancreas), with a 7-point difference.
As a complementary contribution, a clinical management
software platform was developed, comprising a web application
(Python/Streamlit, PostgreSQL, Docker) with role-based access control (RBAC), MDR audit trail, and DICOM anonymisation, integrated with a 3D Slicer extension (HUBUProtocol) that digitalises the
DICOM→STL workflow and transfers results on operator request via
a REST API.</dc:description>
