El presente trabajo de investigación analiza la evolución de Covarrubias contemplándola como una obra total que se ha ido gestando en el marco geográfico, sociopolítico y económico del Valle Medio del río Arlanza.
Desde esa perspectiva unitaria, se abordan las relaciones entre el devenir histórico-artístico de la villa frente al resto de las poblaciones del valle, hasta llegar a dar por válido y motivado el comentario dieciochesco de entender a Covarrubias, como la corte de los alrededores.
A su vez, partiendo de tal visión de conjunto, se contemplan las vicisitudes experimentadas por la villa a lo largo de la progresiva consolidación de su fisonomía (origen, desarrollo y consolidación) en el transcurso de los siglos.
Así, en conexión con ella, se analizan tanto su conformación primigenia como los elementos singulares de carácter público y privado, religioso y civil, que, urbanística y arquitectónicamente, la configuran y reordenan, otorgándole pátina de singular personalidad. En este punto alcanza especial notoriedad su arquitectura popular, su posible origen e influencia, técnica constructiva y materiales, así como su posterior repercusión en la construcción actual.
Precisamente es ésta impronta la que ha hecho merecedora a Covarrubias de ser admirada, en nuestros días, como un preciado legado patrimonial donde la historia se expresa a través de singulares rasgos artísticos los cuales, a su vez, se constituyen en activo principal cara al desarrollo de un próspero futuro.
The folowing investigation work analyzes the evolution of Covarrubias, contemplating it as a total work that has been conceived in the geographic, sociopolitical and economic frame of Arlanza River Valley. From that unitary perspective, the relationships between the historic-artistic process of development of the villa and the rest of populations of the valley will be approached, as far as accepting as a fact the eighteenth century commentary of Covarrubias as the surroundings court.
At the same time, starting from such overview, the difficulties which the villa experiments along the progressive consolidation of its physiognomy troughout centuries are contemplated. And connected to it, the main public and private, religious and civil elements that urbanistically and architecturally configure it awarding it with a unique personality are analyzed.
Precisely, this unique personality has made Covarrubias worth the admiration as a precious patrimonial legacy, where History expresses itself through remarkable artistic features, which, at the same time are constituted in leading assets in regards to the development of a flourishing future.
