Son numerosos los manuscritos autógrafos de santa
Teresas existentes en la actualidad. Unas mil páginas de sus obras
mayores se conservan actualmente en El Escorial, custodiadas en la
regia biblioteca desde 1592 a petición de Felipe II. Al menos otras
mil se hallan diseminadas por Europa y América, tras una azarosa
travesía de más de cuatro siglos. Gran parte de las que integran sus
obras mayores han sido reproducidas en ediciones facsímiles, publicadas
sobre todo en Burgos.
A large number of St Teresa's autograph manuscripts
still exist today. Some thousand autograph pages of her major
works are kept in the monastery of El Escorial , carefully conserved
in the royal library since 1592 at the request of Philip II. At least
another thousand are dispersed through Europe and America, after
a hazardous voyage of more than four centuries. Most of the autographs
which comprise her major works have been reproduced in
facsimile editions, published principally in Burgos.
