<dcterms:abstract>Gaspar Varona es un personaje burgalés desconocido,&#xd;
nacido en la actual Villanueva de Teba. Su carrera política y militar&#xd;
culminó en el reinado de Felipe V al ser nombrado gobernador de&#xd;
Tucumán (Argentina). Allí se distinguió por practicar una política&#xd;
pacifista con los pueblos indígenas del Chaco. El ejercicio de su cargo&#xd;
le permitió reunir cuantiosos bienes, invertidos en Perú en obras&#xd;
piadosas o enviados a sus familiares para fundar una capilla y tres&#xd;
capellanías en la iglesia de su pueblo natal. Asimismo, fue benefactor&#xd;
de la mencionada parroquia a la que donó numerosas piezas litúrgicas&#xd;
de plata.</dcterms:abstract>
<dcterms:abstract>Gaspar Varona is an unknown character, born in the now&#xd;
called Villanueva de Teba. His political and military career culmina -&#xd;
ted in the reign of Philip V became Governor of Tucuman (Argentina).&#xd;
There he distinguished himself due to his pacifist policy with indi -&#xd;
genous peoples of de Chaco. The performance of his duties allowed&#xd;
him to gather substantial assets, invested in Peru in pious works or&#xd;
sent their families to found a chapel and three chantries in the church&#xd;
of his hometown. He was also a benefactor of the above-mentioned&#xd;
parish to which he donated numerous liturgical pieces of silver.</dcterms:abstract>
