The aim of this paper is to present a series of lipsanothecae or small boxes of relics placed inside altars from the Collegiate
and the hermitage of Our Lady of Redonda in Covarrubias, and the
parish church of Tartalés de Cilla. They can be dated between the 10th
and 12th centuries and they are unique objects in the Castilian high
Middle Ages, in which only few similar examples can be found. The
interest of these artefacts lays not only upon its scantiness, but also on
the fact that they are the testimony of the consecration ceremony of
these churches located in two landmarks within the County of Castile.
