<dim:field mdschema="dc" element="description" qualifier="abstract" lang="es">Diego Luis de San Vitores (1627-1672) fue un jesuita nacido en Burgos, perteneciente a una importante familia en la que destacaron grandes comerciantes y funcionarios de la Corte madrileña. Su vida estuvo rodeada de hechos piadosos y sobrenaturales y siempre tuvo una gran vocación misionera que le llevó a la evangelización de las Islas Marianas. Allí fue martirizado, comenzándose desde su muerte, en 1672, un proceso de difusión de su imagen a través de lienzos y grabados encuadrados en el gran desarrollo que tuvo la iconografía del martirio en la Europa Católica del siglo XVII.</dim:field>
<dim:field mdschema="dc" element="description" qualifier="abstract" lang="en">Diego Luis de San Vitores (1627-1672) was a Jesuit born in Burgos, belonging to an influential family in which they emphasized major traders and officials from the Madrid Court. His life was surrounded by pious and supernatural events and always had a great missionary vocation which led him to the evangelization of the Mariana Islands. There he was martyred, beginning since his death in 1672 a process of spreading its image through paintings and engravings framed in the great development that the iconography of martyrdom took in the XVII century Catholic Europe.</dim:field>
