Militello, Paolo 2017 En Gravedona (en el lago de Como) y en Scicli (Sicilia) se encuentran expuestos dos lienzos del siglo XVII, hasta hoy poco conocidos, representando al Cristo de Burgos. La primera de las dos pinturas, la de Gravedona, no posee firma ni datación; la segunda es de Joan a Palazín (o Palacín) y tiene la fecha de 1695. En el estado actual de la cuestión, los dos cuadros son los únicos documentados en Italia con esta iconografía. Después de haber reconstruido la génesis de la leyenda del Cristo de Burgos y la difusión del culto y sus representaciones, y partiendo de una primera veloz reconstrucción de la “biografía” de los dos cuadros (dirigida más desde un punto de vista histórico que histórico- artístico) y de las trazas dejadas por las dos pinturas, formularemos algunas hipótesis sobre sus vicisitudes y protagonistas que, probablemente, llevaron a estas obras de arte hasta la ribera del lago de Como y al extremo sur de Sicilia. On the Trail of Burgos Christ. Stories of Men and 17th Century Paintings Between Castile, Lombardy and Sicily. In Gravedona (on Lake Como, in Our Lady of Solitude’s Chapel) and in Scicli (in St. John the Evangelist’s Church in Sicily) there are two 17th century paintings of Burgos Christ about which there is little known. This is a particular iconographic Spanish model that has been reproduced since the 16th century, in dozens of paintings spread the world. The first of those, being the Gravedona one, is neither signed nor dated; the second of Scicli was done by Joan a Palazín (or Palacín) and dates to 1695. As of our current understanding, the two paintings are the only ones in Italy with this particular iconography. After reconstructing the genesis of the legend of Burgos Christ and the spread of the cult and his representations, beginning with the trail the two paintings left, we will form a hypothesis about the events and participants that most likely brought these pieces of artwork to Lake Como and Sicily.
