de Lerma, refiriéndonos a la zona comprendida entre esta localidad&#xd;
y la de Gumiel de Izán, cobró una especial importancia como parada&#xd;
de postas en el Camino Real que unía Madrid con el sur de Francia,&#xd;
antesala de la moderna Autovía Nacional-I. Ello conllevó la construcción&#xd;
de numerosas ventas y posadas para atender las necesidades&#xd;
de aquellos intrépidos viajeros, y que nutrieron la imaginación popular&#xd;
y la literatura con las andanzas de los brigantes por sus fogones&#xd;
y caballerizas. Con el paso de los años, aquellos caminos que atravesaban&#xd;
grandes masas boscosas se convirtieron en escenario propicio&#xd;
para asaltos a diligencias, noticias que se recogen con profusión en las&#xd;
gacetillas de la época.</dim:field>
<dim:field mdschema="dc" element="description" qualifier="abstract" lang="en">Throughout the Eighteen and Nineteenth centuries the&#xd;
entire southern area of Lerma, referring to the area between this&#xd;
village and Gumiel de Izán, gained a special importance as a stop&#xd;
on the Camino Real that linked Madrid with the south of France,&#xd;
prelude to the modern Motorway A-1. This led to the construction&#xd;
of numerous ventas and posadas to meet the needs of those intre pid&#xd;
travelers, who filled the popular imagination and literature with the&#xd;
wanderings of the brigantes in their stoves and stables. Over the&#xd;
years, those roads crossing great wooded masses became a favorable&#xd;
scenario for stagecoach assaults, news collected with profusion in&#xd;
the gazettes of that time.</dim:field>
