Carta de examen Gremio Mercado laboral Burgos Siglo XVIII Letters of examination Guild Labor market Eighteenth-Century Las “Cartas de Examen” que han sido recopiladas en los archivos de Burgos para el siglo XVIII posibilitan, a mi entender, una reconstrucción sostenible, científica y creíble, de los procesos de ascenso profesional desde el rango de oficial artesano hasta la maestría de taller. Los ritmos que entrevemos en tales procesos corporativos no tuvieron un comportamiento regular y progresivo, sino más bien zigzagueante y dispar. Se perciben momentos tanto de crecimiento como de atenuación, y hundimiento, en el acceso a la maestría artesana, explicables en función de múltiples causas. El reemplazo laboral estaba preñado de alegrías y frustraciones. El dar el salto en el mercado de trabajo cualificado contaba, a la postre, con filtros, drásticos, que los oficiales de la industria del Antiguo Régimen habían de superar. La edad a que se efectuaba tal mejoría profesional supone un vórtice de análisis privilegiado para conocer el grado de competencia o de torpeza existente en los distintos gremios urbanos. Los procesos de reclutamiento de nuevos maestros devienen en un diagnóstico del dinamismo del mercado laboral burgalés y castellano. The “Cartas de Examen” that have been compiled in the archives of Burgos from the eighteenth century allow, in my opinion, a sustainable, scientific and credible reconstruction of the processes of professional advancement from the rank of official craftsman to the workshop master. The rhythms that we notice in such corporate processes did not have a regular and progressive behavior, but they were rather zigzaging and disparate. There are moments of both growth and attenuation, or collapse, in the access to artisan mastery, explainable in terms of multiple causes. The job replacement was full of joys and frustrations. The access to the qualified job market had, in the end, with filters, drastic, that the officers of the Old Regime industry had to overcome. The age at which such professional improvement was made means a vortex of privileged analysis to know the degree of competence or ineptitude existing in the different urban guilds.
