<dim:field mdschema="dc" element="description" qualifier="abstract" lang="es">El presente artículo plantea una aproximación al estudio de la televisión y de sus efectos sobre los públicos, desde una perspectiva sociohistórica. La institucionalización de la televisión como medio de comunicación de masas es resultado de un rápido proceso que genera ingentes estudios sobre su evolución y trayectoria, sobre sus funciones y consecuencias. Un análisis de los principales enfoques históricos y sociológicos sobre la materia nos permitirá señalar algunas de las claves del proceso.</dim:field>
<dim:field mdschema="dc" element="description" qualifier="abstract" lang="en">This paper tries to show an approach to the study of television and it effects on public, using a sociohistoric perspective. The process through televison becames a social institution as mass media communication is the result of a fast development that inspires a big quantity of studies related to it evolution and line, to it functions and consequences. An analysis of the main historic and sociological research works about the subject let us indicate some of the process keys.</dim:field>
