El presente trabajo ahonda en el papel educativo del medio televisivo. Parte del supuesto
de que el relato televisivo tiene la capacidad para proveer a sus públicos de estructuras de
interpretación sobre la realidad circundante. Concretamente, algunos de sus productos, si
bien situados en el plano de la ficción, presentan lecturas explicativas sobre la sociedad
española de presente y pasado. A partir de ahí, nuestra investigación se concreta en el estudio de la telenovela 14 de abril, la República. Insertada en el macrogénero del
melodrama, presenta un discurso adaptado a las características culturales de su público
objetivo. Su relación con otros textos así como su utilización de estrategias emocionales
y realistas viene facilitando su acercamiento a la audiencia. El análisis de este texto nos
permitirá identificar las claves semánticas conforme a las que se dibuja el devenir de la
sociedad española, presentada en clave sentimental, pero también ideológica. La
representación del mundo del trabajo, del espacio rural y urbano, así como de la figura de
la mujer son algunos de los aspectos en los que este texto hace hincapié.
This paper tries to study in depth the role of educating that television performs.
We make the assumption that television narration has the capacity to provide the
audiences with useful interpretation frames about surrounding reality. In this way, some
of its products, even if they are placed in the fictional level, are able to build explicative
readings about present and past Spanish society. In that sense, our research is focused on
the study of April, 14th, Republic (14 de abril, la República). This telenovela, placed in
the macrogender of melodrama, presents a discourse that matches cultural features of it
target audience. The relationship with other texts and also the use of emotional and
realistic strategies are ways of improving proximity to audience. The analysis of this text
will let us identify the semantic keys this telenovela uses to draw the evolution of Spanish
society. This process of change has been presented not only in a sentimental but also in
an ideological way. Some of the dimensions this research focus are the representation of
labour world, the rural and urban scenery, and also the role of women in this fiction.
