En las últimas décadas, el crecimiento de la población brasileña en España ha sido
significativo, tanto en grandes áreas metropolitanas como en ciudades de menor tamaño. Las causas de
esta emigración están vinculadas a diferentes factores, como las crisis económicas y los periodos de
inestabilidad política que se han sucedido en el país. Este fuerte incremento ha venido acompañado de un
paralelo y progresivo interés en su estudio especialmente por parte de investigadores brasileños,
focalizados en el perfil laboral, los procesos de identidad o la influencia de las vinculaciones históricas entre
ambos países. Si nos centramos en un análisis geográfico del fenómeno en las ciudades medias del interior
de España, los datos muestran cómo actualmente este grupo de población está situado entre los diez de
mayor representación sobre el total de extranjeros. Por tanto, el estudio de la población brasileña resulta
pertinente teniendo en cuenta su importancia numérica en términos cuantitativos, pero también sus
particularidades en el contexto específico de estas áreas urbanas. En esta comunicación se aborda, como
objetivo esencial, determinar no sólo cómo se distribuye este colectivo o dónde muestra mayor
representatividad, sino también las diferentes formas de manifestación de la segregación socioespacial en
estas ciudades medias.
In recent decades, the growth of the Brazilian population in Spain has been significant, both
in large metropolitan areas and in smaller cities. The causes of this emigration are linked to different factors,
such as the economic crises and periods of political instability that have occurred in the country. This sharp
increase has been accompanied by a parallel and progressive interest in its study, especially on the part of
Brazilian researchers, focusing on the labour profile, identity processes and the influence of historical links
between the two countries. If we focus on a geographical analysis of the phenomenon in the medium-sized
cities in the interior of Spain, the data show that this population group is currently one of the ten with the
highest representation among the total number of foreigners. Therefore, the study of the Brazilian population
is relevant considering its numerical importance in quantitative terms, but also its particularities in the specific
context of these urban areas. The main objective of this paper is to determine not only how this group is
distributed or where it is most represented, but also the different ways in which socio-spatial segregation
manifests itself in these medium-sized cities.
