The determination of the liquid-liquid equilibrium (LLE) of binary mixtures is a way of approaching the study of molecular interactions. Thermodynamic stability analysis indicates that a liquid mixture separates into two liquid phases if doing so can decrease its Gibbs energy. This phenomenon is important in many separation processes such as extraction and extractive distillation.
