¿El género hace la diferencia? Perfiles de carrera en las presidencias latinoamericanas (1978-2022)

El objetivo de este trabajo es identificar si existen diferencias
sustantivas en el desarrollo de la carrera de los hombres y mujeres
que han ocupado la presidencia en América Latina. Para ello, el
trabajo reconstruye la trayectoria de los 162 hombres y mujeres que
han ocupado, en democracia, la jefatura del Ejecutivo en los países
de la región entre 1978 y 2022. A partir de la reconstrucción de su
carrera política, se propone una clasificación de perfiles de carrera
basada en tres dimensiones: capital de origen, canal de entrada en
la política y capitalización tras la salida de la presidencia. Los datos
muestran patrones diferenciados según el género.
The aim of this study is to identify whether there are substantive
differences in the career development of men and women who
have held the presidency in a Latin America country. To do this, we
reconstruct the trajectory of the 162 men and women that have,
under democracy, been the chief executives of their government in
the region between 1978 and 2022. From the reconstruction of their
political careers, we propose a classification of career profiles based
on three dimensions: capital of origin, entry channel into politics,
and capitalisation after leaving the presidency. The data show
differentiated patterns by gender.
