This piece of work deals about the process of construction of the hero and heroine characters in the film El Cid (1961). It will be necessary to look for the heroic image precedents, those which come from the artistic, literary or pictorial sources which from XII century have been able to be used like inspiration for the authors of the film. All of this, without forgetting how the Castilian hero was falling within the Anglo-Saxon culture until looking like the Myth of the Frontier. Then we go on to break down the archetypes that can be looked among the film characters following the Jungian theory. Since there isn't a limited number of archetypes, the work is focused on those who are in contact with the heroes. Each character will be analyzed starting from the external symbology wich is around him until the psycological and dramatic functions which have an influence on the main character. Finally, we are going to analize the film from the interconnections that exist among the characters the heroes, using the theories of the hero's journey. It will be identified the monomyth's stages in his male and female aspects in order to find out the mythical structures which underlie the plot to know how have been use by the scripwriters and other authors of the film.
