This worrying fact, together with the scarce 17 % of women occupying jobs in the
engineering sector (Eurostat) has motivated the study on the problem: ‘lack of interest of
young women in studying engineering university careers’. Questionnaires have been made to
three different educational levels groups of people (high school students, university students
and graduated engineers) in order to address the causes that generate this problem. On the
other hand, various programs implemented in Spain, whose objective has been to promote the
talent of girls and motivate them towards scientific-technological vocations, have been
analyzed. Finally, an improvement plan has been drawn up for one of the projects (‘Quiero
Ser Ingeniera’). The results show the need for an educational change in favor of the
elimination of gender stereotypes and an improvement in the orientation carried out by the
centers.
