Rapid prototyping using 3D printers is booming and its use is increasingly widespread. Technological advances, but especially the decrease in the price of the printer itself
and the low cost of the materials used (such as engineering plastic ABS plastic and biodegradable PLA), allows this technology is reaching many areas. Since this technique is increasingly used instead in various fields, including engineering is included, it is very important to ensure minimum requirements regarding the mechanical properties for proper insurance products made with this
technique and behavior. However, research regarding this area is still in its infancy. Note the existence of a large number of variables related to the printing process and
material, they influence very significantly in the print results. The purpose of this project is developing a method for determining the specific properties of the samples made with PLA by 3D technology (e.g. modulus of elasticity and tensile strength according to strain and temperature) printing. This project aims to be a cornerstone on which to build and optimize models that can predict the behavior of components manufactured with this technology and its use in a variety of areas such as engineering and biomechanics among others. The procedure should be general enough that it can be applied to different printers with different process parameters and materials. The project is widely multidisciplinary; It includes the study of the state of art, design samples and manufacturing processes (study and optimization of process parameters and the software used in 3D printing), manufacturing process and subsequent manufacturing of specimens, determination of procedures, study and implementation mechanical testing and finally, analysis and interpretation of results, as well as a proposal for future research.and finally, analysis and interpretation of results, as well as a proposal for future research.
