An observationinstrument was adapted from one with proven validity. The data was recorded using the free software Lince. Theobservational sample is composed of all the sequencesthat end in a shot. The reliability of the recordings wasguaranteed by inter-observer agreement using Cohen’skappa coefficient. Complementary use of the decision treeanalysis technique and the detection of T-patterns —usingthe software Theme— made it possible to characterisethe construction of the sequences that end in shots thatwere both effective and ineffective. It may be concludedthat in the elite U14 category, ineffective sequences stillpredominate over effective ones, except for the inside shotsof players in a point guard position.
