El vaciado de los archivos lucenses arroja, entre alguno de sus resultados, la relevancia del foco de Castilla y León dentro del catálogo de maestros que trabajan en la Catedral de Lugo durante los siglos de la Edad Moderna, partiendo del fin del Concilio de Trento (1563).
Gaspar de Alazar Cornejo y José de Artiaga, maestros de órganos, Rosendo Álvarez Canedo y José Terán, pintores, o escultores como Francisco González, configuran parte del nutrido número de artistas que imprimen las principales directrices artísticas que se imponían durante ese periodo en Castilla y León.
Sus intervenciones en puntos estratégicos de la catedral, entre los que se encuentran la capilla mayor o el antiguo retablo de la Virgen de los Ojos Grandes, hacen que Castilla y León fuese el principal foco artístico en este templo durante la Edad Moderna, junto con el foco compostelano.
